Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of the Atlasblock API and everything around it. Please read them. They are written to be clear, not to trip you up.

[ 01 ]

Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Atlasblock, Inc. ("Atlasblock", "we", "us"). They govern your access to and use of the Atlasblock API, the dashboard, the documentation, and the website at atlasblock.dev, which we call the Service.

By creating an account, generating an API key, or calling the API, you agree to these terms. If you are using the Service for an organization, you are agreeing on its behalf, and you confirm that you have the authority to do so. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

[ 02 ]

The service

Atlasblock is a neighborhood API. It returns normalized ratings, geographic lookups, and related data for locations in the United States. The data is drawn from public sources such as the Census Bureau, the FBI, the National Center for Education Statistics, the EPA, and NOAA, and from our own scoring on top of those sources.

We may add, change, or remove endpoints and features over time. When a change would break existing integrations, we ship it under a new version prefix so your current integration keeps working. See the versioning section below.

[ 03 ]

Accounts and API keys

You need an account to use the Service. Keep your account details accurate, and keep your password and API keys secret. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and your keys, whether or not you authorized it.

Treat live keys like passwords. Do not embed them in public code, client-side apps, or anywhere a third party can read them. If a key is exposed, rotate it from your dashboard right away. Tell us at support@atlasblock.dev if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

[ 04 ]

Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and within these limits. You may not:

  • Resell, redistribute, or republish raw API responses as a standalone dataset, or build a product whose main purpose is to stand in for the Service.
  • Scrape, cache, or store the data beyond what your application reasonably needs to work.
  • Work around rate limits or quotas, share keys across unrelated accounts, or open multiple accounts to get past a plan limit.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or try to derive our scoring methodology or source code, except where the law expressly allows it.
  • Probe, scan, or test the security of the Service, or interfere with its normal operation.
  • Use the Service to build or train a competing dataset or model without our written permission.
[ 05 ]

Prohibited decisions about people

Atlasblock provides information about places, not verified information about people. You must not use the Service, on its own or combined with other data, to make or inform decisions about a specific individual, including their eligibility for credit, insurance, housing, or employment.

That includes tenant screening, lending, insurance underwriting or pricing, and hiring. The Service is not a consumer reporting agency, the data is not a consumer report, and you may not use it in any way governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You are also responsible for following the Fair Housing Act and all other anti-discrimination laws when you use the data.

You are responsible for how your application uses the data, and for any decision you or your users make based on it.

[ 06 ]

Plans, billing, and payment

Some plans are free and some are paid. Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis through our payment processor, Stripe. By starting a paid plan, you authorize us to charge your payment method for the plan fee each billing cycle until you cancel.

Every plan has a hard monthly cap and no overage billing. When you reach your cap, further calls return a 429 response until the next cycle. To get a higher allowance, upgrade your plan. Fees are stated on the pricing page and may change. If we change the price of your plan, we will give you notice before it takes effect.

You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. Cancellation stops future charges and takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Except where the law requires it, fees you have already paid are not refundable.

[ 07 ]

Rate limits and quotas

Each key has a per-minute burst limit, and each account has a monthly quota, both set by your plan. Every request counts toward your quota, including cache hits and error responses. When you exceed a limit, the API returns a 429 response with headers that tell you when you can retry.

[ 08 ]

Data, sources, and your license

Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to call the API and to use the responses inside your own application or internal tools for the term of your plan.

The underlying facts come from public sources and are not owned by anyone. Our compiled data, ratings, scoring, and the way we present them are ours. You may show API results to your users as part of your application. You may not package the results into a competing dataset or redistribute them in bulk. An attribution to Atlasblock is appreciated where it is practical, but it is not required.

[ 09 ]

Availability, changes, and versioning

We work to keep the Service available and accurate, but we provide it on an "as available" basis and do not promise a specific uptime, except where a separate written agreement says otherwise. Free plans carry no service level commitment.

The API is versioned in the URL under a prefix such as /v1. Breaking changes ship under a new prefix so your integration keeps working. We may retire an older version, and if we do, we will give reasonable notice through the documentation or by email.

[ 10 ]

Intellectual property

The Service, including the API, the dashboard, the documentation, our compiled data and scoring, the Atlasblock name, and our logos, is owned by Atlasblock, Inc. and is protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not give you any right to our brand or marks. You keep all rights to the application you build.

[ 11 ]

Disclaimers

The Service and all data are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the data is accurate, complete, or current, that it is fit for a particular purpose, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or free of errors.

Neighborhood data is an estimate built from public sources of varying age and quality. Do not treat it as a statement of fact about any specific property or person. You use the data at your own risk.

[ 12 ]

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Atlasblock, Inc. and its officers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim, or one hundred United States dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

[ 13 ]

Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify Atlasblock, Inc. against any claims, losses, and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from your use of the Service, your application, your content, or your violation of these terms or of any law or third party right.

[ 14 ]

Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these terms, if your use puts the Service or other users at risk, or if we are required to by law. When we can, we will give you notice first.

When your access ends, your right to use the Service and the data stops. Sections that by their nature should survive, such as the disclaimers, the limits on liability, and the indemnity, will continue to apply.

[ 15 ]

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. You and Atlasblock, Inc. agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute that is not resolved otherwise, and you each waive any objection to venue in those courts.

[ 16 ]

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where it makes sense, let you know by email or in the dashboard. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.
